The History of Hops is Wisconsin dates to the late 1800's when European settlers brought in hop plants from their native regions and began cultivating them.  The Wisconsin hop industry briefly dominated US production in the 1870's until the combination of plant disease and increased Pacific Northwest hop production permanently supplanted  it as the major hop growing region in the US.  With the failure of the hop industry many Wisconsin farmers converted to dairy production, helping to make Wisconsin the"Dairy State" to this day.

"Escaped" hops from this era freely crossbred with each other and the Native North American hops that predated European settlement.  For the last 140+ years this process has been on-going producing unique and hardy wild hops.  This is the origin of Northern Discovery®
